Wood Hall Wedding Photographer
A Georgian country house near Wetherby: quiet, private and with incredible views.
Photographing weddings at Wood Hall
Wood Hall is a country-house hotel in 100 acres near Linton, just outside Wetherby. The house was built around 1750 to a design by John Carr, the Yorkshire architect behind Harewood House. It stands on a hill with sweeping views over the countryside, a couple of hundred yards from the River Wharfe.
I photographed Anne and Chris’s Wood Hall wedding, which began with an early ceremony at All Hallows in Bardsey, the village church close to their home. Back at Wood Hall I took them a short way up the drive for portraits. Anne, who grew up on a farm, climbed a wobbly gate in her wedding dress without a second thought. Their day reminded me how easy it is to miss what’s right in front of you, which is exactly what I’m there to notice.
Wood Hall sits on the same river as my home in Wharfedale, and travel is included in every collection. See more of my Wetherby wedding photography.

About Wood Hall
For centuries the estate belonged to the Vavasour family, whose earlier house by the river was destroyed in the Civil War. The Scott family of Leeds bought it around 1790, and in 1966 it became a pastoral centre for the Catholic Diocese of Leeds. It opened as a hotel in 1988, is Grade II listed, and is now run by Hand Picked Hotels.
Weddings here take up to 100 guests for the ceremony, including outdoor ceremonies in the grounds, and up to 100 for the wedding breakfast, with room for 150 in the evening. There are 44 bedrooms, so your closest family and friends can stay the night.

A wedding day at Wood Hall
Anne and Chris’s day began at Bardsey’s church, whose Anglo-Saxon tower Historic England describes as probably the oldest Saxon work in Yorkshire. Back at Wood Hall, guests gathered on the steps beneath the stone columns of the entrance, and the speeches inside had people laughing and one guest wiping her eyes.
The grounds and the farmland around them are the real treat for photographs. A short walk up the drive brings you to farm tracks, gates and fields under big skies. You can have proper countryside portraits and still be back in time for the first dance.
