Photographing weddings at Wharfedale Grange
Wharfedale Grange is an exclusive-use wedding venue on the Harrogate Road near Harewood, halfway between Harrogate and Leeds. Four barns have been redeveloped alongside a Grade II listed 18th-century farmhouse, and it’s finished to such a high standard that it doesn’t really feel right just calling it a barn venue.
I remember seeing the signs when it was first being built and having a feeling it would be a good one. I was right: it’s one of my top ten Yorkshire wedding venues. And for the Leeds cyclists out there, it sits right on the Pool triangle time trial course.

About Wharfedale Grange
The venue is family-run and exclusive use, so the whole place is yours for the day. It’s licensed for civil ceremonies indoors or outside under an arbour, celebrant-led ceremonies are welcome too, and it takes weddings of up to around 250 guests.
The North Barn has oak beams, original stonework, a mezzanine and crystal chandeliers, while the South Barn has a cocktail bar and dance floor for the evening. There’s a bridal preparation suite in the Cart Barn, landscaped gardens and a courtyard, and the farmhouse sleeps 18 in six bedrooms. Outside caterers are welcome, and the venue can recommend some.
A wedding day at Wharfedale Grange
Mornings here are easy. Getting ready in the Cart Barn keeps everyone on site and relaxed. The farmhouse is available from the afternoon before, so your closest family and friends can stay over and be part of the whole build-up.
Inside, the thoughtful lighting and decoration make everything a dream to photograph, especially the speeches. Under the chandeliers, the wedding breakfast feels far more intimate than its size.
Outside, the arbour and gardens look out over open fields, and the garden catches the evening light beautifully. That means a few minutes of golden-hour portraits are never far from the party, and then it’s back to the South Barn for the dancing.
